Librarians can provide you with great suggestions whether you just want some suggestions within a genre, others by a particular author, or something like something else. Amazon.com has search features and "If you liked Turnover, you might also like Strudel" suggestions, which I think are great.
The local librarians here put together a listing of popular or particularly noteworthy authors by type of work. I have listed their recommendations on the pages linked below, along with the writer's most popular or most recent work; or their acknowledged "best" or what I considered their most "accessible" book. Ah, but what is accessible? Some books are worthwhile, but difficult to "get into." If there was a choice to be made, I chose the book which received good reader reaction as well as thumbs up from critics. I opted for those with elements of humor mixed in with any moralizing. I skimmed the reviews of several books of each writer before making my "pick," and also considered Pulitzer Prizes, National Book Awards, and even Oprah's Book Club selections, though none of those automatically resulted in that book being shown. What did, is, if I wasn't already familiar with the book, IT would be the next one I personally would want to read by that writer.
