Even after Internet veterans settle into their favorite destinations and develop and bookmark their list of favorites, they tend to continue surfing, and often with a particular something in mind. Perhaps they are triggered by a news or sporting event, or research needs for school or work. Search engines are the place to begin, and experienced web surfers have frequently settled on favorites there too. Sometimes this is because it's the one they started with, or they found the interface comfortable. Here's the news: many of the search engines have changed significantly in the last few years. Search engines have added directories, and directories have evolved into or added search engines (Yahoo being the best example of this. Yahoo relied on Inktomi for its searches for years, now uses Google, as does this site). New ones have sprung up. Many use the same database with different criteria to select and present the results. Bottom line - if at first you don't succeed, maybe instead of trying all 7,348 entries on one list, or becoming frustrated at "No results match your search," try another search engine. The "crawlers" that purport to search all the other engines aren't foolproof either. The boxes and other links below should make it easy to sample what each has to offer.
